Ok so yesterday I left Santa Monica and headed to Coronado. On our way we decided to take a few hours and see Venice Beach. All I can say is that it was… an experience. It felt like walking through a never ending circus. Although there was an abundance of vendors, Venice Beach is more about the people watching than it is the shopping. There was a man selling dog collars with cocaine on his nose and lip, a man rollerblading and playing guitar, homeless men eating out of the trash (I was on the verge of tears), and boys dressed in lab coats asking if “you wanna get legal?” It was quite the afternoon, but after all is said and done I’m glad to have experienced the madness. I’m thankful that I can now say that I have been there and done that.
Coronado, which is just outside of San Diego, is a whole different scenario. I am in love with this city. It is a small island laid out in a grid pattern and everyone seems to know everyone. Everything is within walking distance and everyone rides bikes rather than driving. Today I left the hotel at 8, grabbed an organic coffee at the local market/cafe, and headed off on my 20 min walk to yoga class. This Iyengar class was one of the best yoga classes I have had in years. The class was an hour and a half and was very grounding and focusing. We spent the first 30 minutes balancing, the next 45 minutes strengthening and working in inversions, and 15 minutes to meditate.
My quote from todays class is from our instructor: “the thing about straightening your leg is that you just have to straighten your leg.” I laughed so hard when she said this, and yet it is so true. When you want to do something you just have to toughen up and do it. It might hurt at first but you have to take the risk.
